the Practical Skateboarder

Life lessons from skateboarding.

Not all time in life is equal.

This is especially true in skateboarding.

The time in your teens and 20’s are prime years with fewer responsibilities and better health (a gift of youth), making this time in life unlike any other that follows when it comes to skateboarding opportunities.

Aging, family life, and work responsibilities become increasingly significant barriers to investing time in skateboarding as you get older.

If you decide that skateboarding is the most important thing in your life, then you will not regret prioritizing your life around skateboarding during your prime years.

However, many of us (myself included), may feel that we’ve unintentionally missed those prime years of skateboarding as we’re aging through our 30’s, 40’s, and on. If you feel this way, don’t despair.

Wherever you are at now, it is the best time to keep skating. The health and energy you have today, while a fraction of what you might have had at 20, is still more than you will likely have later in life. If you feel like you’ve missed your 20’s, imagine how you will feel when you’re in your 40’s, wishing that you’d skated more in your 30’s? Or, if you’re in your 40’s, how will you feel if you squander the time you have now when you’re in your 50’s, 60’s and so on?

Yes, your time as a young adult may have been the prime years, but today will always be more valuable than tomorrow when it comes to skateboarding.
